Memphis ISD has been awarded the Connections Grant in the amount of approximately $390,000, to be received over two years. On Friday, August 27, 2010, the Texas Education Agency informed Memphis ISD that it is one of eleven winning districts statewide. The goal of this grant is to leverage the transformative use of digital content in the classroom, at home and in the community, by integrating technology into the effective instruction of students.

The Connections Technology Grant specifies that Memphis ISD use the grant funding to provide teacher training in the areas of technology. The grant also specifies that MISD provide portable devices to students in grades 3 through 5, and to increase the district’s Internet connectivity for 6th through 12th grade students. Additionally, Memphis Schools will be a demonstration site to showcase our use of technology in the 21st century classroom.

Memphis ISD is very excited about this opportunity to showcase the advancements in instruction that are already occurring at the upper grades, and to increase this opportunity for the younger students.
